Hi Everyone,
New member and first post.
I'm still building my first CBG after a friend brought one along to our ukulele club, it looked interesting, I think it was the simplicity of the instrument that appealed and the great sound that came out of it .
Anyhow I had this idea that it maybe possible to build a bass version of one of these but with a dulcimer fret layout. The idea being that each string was tuned to a different, then you could simply play along in the key of the song using the appropriate string and that it wouldn't matter where you played it would always sound correct due to the dulcimer layout.
Does this sound possible or am I getting the wrong end of the stick ?

Thanks, thats great. I'm now tempted to make one of those as well. At our ukulele club one of the guys will sometimes play bass and it really adds to the overall sound, and its noticeable when he's not there. Having a bass setup this way would allow anyone in the club to be able to pick it up and at least be able to add something (bad or good ;) ).
Thanks for the feedback.
Am I correct in thinking that if you had a string tuned to C and that if a song is in the key of C using a dulcimer layout I could fret anywhere on that string and it would sound correct ?
The only difference on a fretted instrument is a dulcimer omits the sharp frets... at least as I understand it. You could do this fretted or unfretted. I made a 2 string unfretted 30" scale bass for a friend . . . he loves it!
