I know that scale length on a guitar is measured from the Edge of the NUT to where the string crosses

the saddle.  When using bolts at NUT and Bridge/Saddle I guess the measurement would be from the center of the bolts on both sides since that is where the strings touch.  Correct?  On the fretless I built (no fret lines on face of fretboard)  just want to make sure that I have scale length exact before I put fret markers on player side of neck at 3,5,7,9 and 12......

Thanks for your help!

Mark

  • Hi Mark, you are correct in what you say about scale length off the bolts.

To locate the position dots with no fret positions, I would do the following: Mark the fret positions onto the fingerboard in pencil, then locate the dot positions in between those marks. Then sand the whole board to level the position markers and remove the pencil marks. Job done.
