Holding the CBG

Hello,I am new to CBG or guitars in general. I notice in the videos of people playing that when sitting most people dont use a strap. I see them take their hand off the neck and the guitar seems to be balanced,or they say you shouldnt support the guitar with the neck. My guitar looks similar to most I see but it is not really close to being able to balance resting on my leg. Right now I am having troubles getting comfortable holding my guitar. Any tips out there? Thanks for any help.

  • There's lots of players that use straps.

    • Do many use a strap while sitting? So far that is how it feels most comfortable and controllable for me.

      • The #1 rule of CBGs is "There are no rules"!! If a strap works for you, use a strap!

  • its not easy to build a balanced cbg  instrument  in can be done. one thing I use I call a CBG doily .

6x6 piece of (tool box drawer liner or kitchen liner ( becareful some will leach oil into lacquer)  as a place holder on the knee they will not move.
