Had me some fun the other day. I was completing a CBG and had made a 2 piece brass tail piece. A pierced brass tube mounted to a brass plate. I soldered it together with some 3% silver solder and figured I was good to go. Mounted all the strings and proceeded to tune them to GDGB. Got the tuning done and found they had all stretched...no problem, 1st set is never permanent anyhow. Tuned again, stretched again. Did this 3 more times till I heard a loud "pop" and the strings shot out over the headstock...soldered brass piece included! Lesson learned, never trust solder on a tailpiece unless there is a mechanical stop added to the piece, (as in wrap the string holder some with the base of the design). BTY, the screwed in piece stayed in place...natch!
