I’m looking for some advice.  I have a wood box with two hinges.  Is it easier to just undo the hinges and just make the top lift off.  I’m going to have a screw in each corner no matter anyway.  That made me think it might all be better to just undo the hinges.  What’s good advice about this?

  • Some people utilize the boxes with hinges for ease of access to get at any electronics inside in lieu of unscrewing a box, if not already on the box, add a clasp to keep the lid shut, between that and the string tension you should be fine. If you notice any unpleasant vibrations caused by the the lid not being true enough where it meets the box, then maybe add a couple screw where the lid meets the box when closed. I've seen some add the clasp and flip the box using the bottom as the top, then you don't have to remove the strings to gain access if you need to work on the electronics or just make additions or changes.

But yeah, you can remove the hinges and just screw it down, remember, there are no rules in cigar box building cept for one, you must have fun!!!

    • Thanks, now I have to decide.  Anyway it’s all fun.
