Help Tuning

Help! I just got my Founder's Faith cigar box guitar. While tuning the low G string, it broke. I purchased another set and I am afraid to push it past the D tuning because that is where it snapped the first time. When I go back to the lower G, the string is to loose. Any suggestions?

  • The new strings should work just fine. Plenty of folks here use them. The string that came with it could have been crimped or damaged somehow. Or just a bad string.

  • Hi, check that your string gauge suits the G tuning. Also check where the string breaks, might be a sharp edge at that point.

    • The one that broke is the one that came on the guitar and it broke between the nut and tuner. On arrival, the strings were already attached, just hanging loose. From the description on the site, "This is a fretted 3-string acoustic/electric cigar box guitar strung "low open G" GDG."

The other set I purchased is Southbound String Co. "3-string Acoustic Light Gage, Item #: 34-015-OX, Open G 'GDG' Low G- Middle D- High G, 0.042W- 0.030W-0.009P"

Are the strings the same? As a newbie, it seemed so to me.

      Thank you for your response.
