Hello everyone, i'm currently having a battle with my first build.

i have tried mounting piezo pickups in several places but i cant seem

to get rid off the  exsessive handling noise. the body is made of powder coated metal

and a table leg runs through it keeping the neck in place.

so, if you all could give tips, advice and succestions how to

make the darn thing sound better.

thanx

Welcome to piezoelectric pickups. They are, by definition, contact microphones.. The only thing you can do is deaden them a bit. I have used double stick foam tape with some success, just make sure you clean the glue surfaces good so they don't peel off later. As always, make sure you insulate the exposed part of the piezo as well.

thanx mate, im really kinda new to these things.

some good advice ::D

Did you put hot glue all around it. Seems most people make a 'shell' of hot glue.

It helped on the one I've done so far.

I have found that it helps with feedback, but not handling noise...

i've used dispersion type glue by far.

maybe a little harder when dry, but more flexible.

any experiences with disc-o-tone or bottlecap type of solutions?

Wrap the piezo disc in felt. Or thick leather. Or sandwich it between pieces of thin wood. Or place it in a bottle cap with hot glue. Or silicone sealant. Drown it in the stuff.

Second this: hard/stiff felt on both sides of the piezo to kill handling noise without deadening it too much, then solid wood on both sides to kill feedback (such as 'crushing' the piezo between the soundboard and the through neck, or a wood cleat/brace holding the felt/piezo sandwich against the underside of the soundboard under the bridge.

If it is made of metal I wouldn't attach it to the body. It looks like a bolt on neck. How about sandwiching it between the neck and the table leg. Or nearer the tail of the table leg.

Most people muffle them by wrapping them up / encasing them in stuff.

Edit. If it's a metal soundboard many people have amplified the vibrations of resonators using a pup. Maybe you can do the same?

ok, i've had alot of good advice, will try 'em out soon as possible.

well, it's a dovetail joint which i glued together along with two wooden pins.

reinforced with another piece of table leg.

in the pics you can see the two piezos i have in at the moment.

it sounds pretty good though, but i swear i can heard my pulse when im holding

my hand on the neck, so the handling noise is also quite a bit from

my left had.

anything that insulates the disc from the wood I used a lot of want people have suggest but I like this double side foam tape. You can put masking tape over wire side of the disc if think you'll need to remove it.

I've tried the following...and it works 100%.

Start your BBQ, setting the flame at HIGH HEAT...or if you have a fire pit, start a fire. After 5 minutes, take the piezos and throw them into the flames.

Meanwhile, cut out a spot on the top of your box and install a mag pickup.

You're guaranteed to get rid of that unwanted piezo noise.

And don't forget to extinguish the fire.

well thats one way to put it :D

i've been wondering, would it work if i'd mount the magnetic pick up beneath

the sound board. you see i'ts warped as it is and im kinda reluctant to weaken it anymore

by cutting holes to it.

anyhow im going to experiment with the piezos, i've got one mounted, it sound pretty sweet.

its on the table leg, i will put two more on the shelf of the cabinet.

the table leg runs through it and the halves resonate quite nicely.
