Hi all,

First, this seems to be a wonderful community - I really appreciate all the resources here.

I am just finishing up my very first guitar - waiting for some pieces/tools I just ordered from CB Gitty.

While I do own an electric miter saw, electric drill and cordless drill, I am not looking to invest anything in electric tools at this time.

So that being said what hand saws do you recommend for notching boxes and especially necks cleanly without power tools?  It looks a bit overwhelming - dovetail, tenon, pull, push, Japanese saws, etc.  I really don't know anything about woodworking or hand tools.  Any suggestions are appreciated.

I already have the fretting saw from CB Gitty, so good there.

Thanks, Dave

this one for heaver cuts and it has a replacable blade.

  • Japanese saw is very useful for just about anything;  thinning headstocks, notching necks/boxes, cutting, etc. So is a  hand Scroll saw for sound hole cut outs & F-holes & are affordable at any big box store, keep it simple :)

    • Thanks Brian!
