Why are some pick-ups installed at an angle? When there are 2 pick-ups on a guitar, I have noticed that sometimes the second pick-up next to the nut is at an angle to the first one closest to the neck.

Leo Fender said that he angled the bridge pickup toward the bridge on the treble string side to mimic the tone of Slide/Steel guitars that were popular in the 50's.

Benny, basically an angled pickup takes out the boomy effect of the bass strings so that the treble strings cut through better?
To balance the tone- you get better response from the treble strings & more control over the bass strings?
