Drill Bit for CB Gitty 1" Sound Hole Grommets

About done with my first and needing to drill a couple of sound holes in the paper covered cigar box.

I have some 1" Grommets/w screens from CB Gitty.  The website site says the inside diameter of the grommet it "about 1/2"......    Would be nice if they were exact 1/2".  I've drilled test holes in a piece of wood that approximates the thickness of the cigar box lid.

1/2" hole is too small and grommet won't fit.

5/8" is way too big.

Was hoping these would just "snap in".  Folks that use these are you just drilling a bigger hold and then gluing?

Hi, what I would do is drill the 1/2" hole and ease it to size with a 3/8" dowel stick wrapped in your sandpaper of choice.

If you have a barrel sander dremel bit, then your as good as gold?

Yep, BrianQ's suggestion is good. I have a dozen or so of those and the smallest is 9/16".
If you want to go power assisted this is what I do for small holes, you can use a rill press or a hand drill.

I’ve always used a stepped unibit and a little hot glue.

I use a 9/16" spade bit, then superglue the grommet. Be sure to put a backing board behind the lid before drilling the hole to avoid tear-out.
