Stroviols Horn Fiddle on ebay, could someone pop over to England and buy this for me? It's a one string fiddle with a diaphragm-horn.

yep. I was toying with the idea in my head of using a speaker cone instead of the flat metal cone. But I don't know how I would attach it. In the end a pizza box resonator is easier ;-)

Makes me want to find parts for an old Victrola and go to town. A Goole search turned up this page of similar intruments:
