Cigar Box Vibrates!

Hi,

I've got my first cigar box guitar I built. I bought the neck and completed the rest myself including drilling holes to install the tuning pegs.

I don't play much yet, but after tuning it up I strummed it. I get a vibration from the cigar box between the lid and box. If I place my hand on the lid and strum it no vibration occurs. Any suggestions for limiting or stopping vibration between the box and lid are appreciated. I don't want to glue it shut. I might need access in the future to change pots or pickup or possibly add other electronics.

Thanks for any responses,

Ken

  • yup . a small nail  , or a small screw may  work for re-entry purposes  either on  corners or in the middle .. add a small block of  wood to tap into if needed.  you can also add material .  (wood or other ) to  and edge , or edges to make the box  hold itself tighter when closed .

  • Top should vibrate, but not rattle. Sometimes that can be hard to fix because screws or brad nails don't want to stay in the plywood sides or fiberboard tops. Those corner pieces that Will suggested work good and the those little hook locks work good too.

  • A small nail/ brad in each corner or go to home depot an pick up decorative corner brakets should cure the problem. IMO
