I have just finished my first Cigar Box Amp from the kit on CB Gitty. I have previously built 2 CBGs, and I have also built effects pedals from kits on general guitar gadgets. I like my CB amp and am interested in adding to it or possibly building a new one. I'm interested in adding a simple distortion or overdrive circuit to the amp circuitry. Is this possible with a simple battery powered amp? How would I go about doing this? Any suggestions for a good circuit to add? All feedback is appreciated.

  • It depends on how much you want to do yourself.  Artec do a nice little overdrive unit that takes the place of a normal pot on a guitar here is one link http://guitarheads.net/products/electronics/qdd.html but if this is what you had in mind I'd google it to find the best price - I have one on a SG copy and it sounds good.

If you want a passive device using diodes (really cheap to buy) google "soft clipping"
