Hello Everyone.

I had a strange idea for a fretboard.

Kinda like this picture here. switching the color with every fret and placing the fret wire on the edge of the color switch. I got a few pieces of Oak and Smoked Oak. Would something like that even work as a fretboard or should I get other types of wood?

my idea was to put this about 1/4 inch thick on a Birchwood neck because that is what I can get really easy at my local hardware store.

Glue it up first, level it, then cut the fret slots.. It has been done before....

Hi, never used birch for a neck but I understand it is a flexible timber and " bends well". So my first thought was combining this with a fretboard that would have no strength to add to the neck due to the many glue joints used, could create a weak neck.

But I don't know for sure, just keep it in mind when designing your neck.
