Just another FNG question. Im using 5/16 brass rod for a nut and bridge. Do I need to fole string grooves fo keep the strings inplace? My brain says yes, but I can over think things sometimes. Thanx for any advice. Daryl

You could get by with not filing slots on the nut side if your break angle is steep enough, but to avoid issues I would file some slots there anyway. I file slots in brass, bone, Corian, whatever I'm using regardless of break angle at the nut on lapsteels.
I probably would not file slots on the bridge rod unless I noticed issues with string slippage, or if you're fretting the neck and need to create some intonation points. At any rate, the shallower the break angle at either the nut or bridge, the greater the need for slots.
