I really enjoyed building my first license plate reso and would like to build some more. Have had some interest from locals wanting to buy one. The right box size is damn hard to find though. I found a Padron 7000 that is around 7 x 12-ish and works pretty good for the standard 6x12 license plate. Haven't found one since, and I don't have the tools or knowledge to build my own boxes. Anybody know of any other cigar brands that might utilize the size box I need?
Here's a couple of pics of my Padron 7000 build. I cut out most of the box top, then installed a rod piezo between the plate and the neck, along with a pre-amp. Man, this thing really sounds good. One day I'm gonna pull the strings and "age" the plate. In the meantime, I'm gonna enjoy it!

@Bluesheart @Oily SONT Fool Thanks for the ideas and the encouraging words. Just starting on a huge work project, so my building time will quickly become limited for the forseeable future. But I'll start my homework and see if I can't build my own boxes.
Vick,
You're welcome. I constructed my boxes a little bit, maybe 30 minutes-one hour, at a time, over several nights. At the end of two weeks, both boxes were basically done. Just turn the TV off, put on some music, and it goes faster than you think ;-)
Vick,
I build my own boxes using nothing more than a handsaw, a rechargeable drill, some clamps, some 3/16" lauan plywood, some 1" squared pine stretchers cut to fit, some screws to stiffen up the edges, and some Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue. My boxes are 12" x 10-1/2" x 3-1/2", but you can design a box to fit a license plate; I've got two upcoming builds where I'm gonna hafta build boxes for them, because it's tough to get cigar boxes where I live, and finding the right size is even tougher. Check out the pics on my Profile Page, and you can see how my boxes are constructed. There is also a Discussion Group here at CBN called Homemade Resonator Boxes 101 v2 that has numerous plans for building your own boxes with simple hand tools.
It will be hard to find cigar boxes that big. If you were able to cut the top out of that one, I don't see why you could not make a simple box out of say 1x3 pine and some thin ply for the back. This would be easy and inexpensive, and you can make it just the right size to fit the plate if you want. Check the pics here for plate guitars and you will see lots of ideas.
