I think I am blessed with a unique opportunity right out of the starting block. I haven't made the first guitar, but have been scoring boxes (17) and accumulating tools and parts for a start. Look at this box. At first you can see it has two lids. There is a common bottom and the outside is radiused. At first I was thinking cut the bottom out. Now I am thinking make use of it as a sound board. I have cut a 1 1/2" wide flat on the radius for a neck. I feel sure I need to glue some backup to the inside to reinforce. There are other details but the Question Is: How do I make use of this thin bottom for vibration. I was thinking good size f holes. Using SWAG technique.(Scientific Wild Azz Guess) Box dimensions are 1 3/4"x 7 3/4"x 10 7/8" (+/-). Any ideas out there or is it in the way and needs to go. I am thinking along the acoustic/ electric.

  • Use the "bottom" for your top. The double lid box means you have built-in access for electronics. Don't make your f holes too big: small holes transmit bass notes better, large holes transmit the higher frequencies better. I would run your neck as an internal brace all across the inside length of the box.
