Been working on this for a couple weeks now. Lots of cutting and measuring and gluing and clamping and a lot of the things I don't like having to do so I usually work with tins to avoid them, but now that part I done and I can relax. I have built a Box, rather large 340mm x 210mm, mostly out of ply and an old pallet.

Today I cut and drilled out the holes, 6 sound holes on the top and a one for the length of Pine that the neck is now mounted on. for the moment, the work is done and I am thinking of what to do next. I want to drill a 7th sound hold right in-between the bridge bolt and the neck, which is large enough to mount a Mini Humbucker or a single coil inside of it.

There will be more pictures, but for the moment, what you guys think?

  • you might have a scale length problem now. the end of the fretboard where the nuttouches is the start of the scale length if you removed the nut and put in a bolt the start point of the scale length is moved back to the top of the bolt. putting all the frets out of position...

  • HI JP, sounds like your all over it. Don't forget that the nut is designed/fitted to give correct action height at the first fret. So you will need the strings on to get that right. Don't glue it in with epoxy, Ha ha.

  • Hi, that looks like a sturdy box, nice clean work too, well done.

    • Thank you Taff, I have done a little work on the neck. it didn't come with a nut so I took a long 2mm bolt, sawed off the end and glued it in the slot and now I have a universal nut. I've had some thoughts as to do to with this thing I have created, it might serve as my test bed for working with coursed strings. something like a GgDdGg open tuning or something to that effect would be something to try.
