I recently had a local musician order two of my cigar box guitars and he asked for them to have old "rat rod" type of parts on them.  I had two nicer guitars underway, so I decided to give them artistic pickguards made from old steel cans.  

The guitar on the left has a pickguard made from a steel beer can.  The one on the right comes from a tobacco tin.  Here's how I did it:

  • sanding the edges will also help to reduce the "finger slice & dice" aspect. 

  • A tip:

    Put double sided tape on the back. This will prevent the metal/aluminum from deforming and pushing in and creating a crinkle/pop noise.

  • Those look great Shane.

    Have to be real careful cutting them I found out when cutting the Sprite can for my build awhile back. Those cans can cut fast and deep. 

    I like how you beveled the edges on yours.
