Bedpan pickups

I put this in the wrong forum, should have been here.  i have a bunch of stainless bedpans, 18, I bought to make guitars from and would like to have your options on what type , model, ect of pickup you think might work well. I have recently bought a resonator guitar that doesn’t have a pickup and find amoung Reso players there are just a few they find acceptable with the general agreement that just using a mic is best but I still want to try some different pickups to see what I think. Any ideas and opinions welcome thanks

  • If you’re doing neck-thru with the open side of pan up,wich I recommend.  then you haven’t anything to worry about bcuz you’ll be mounting pickups in the neck body. With that said I would use anything you want besides a disc piezo, it really makes it sound tinny.

    • True that.

  • P90's, Lipstick Tubes,Tele pickups, Strat pickups, Gold Foils and mini-buckers have all been used with a great following for reso type guitars. Flatpup pickups would be a good choice and piezo's would work great too.

The big issue you may encounter with magnetic pickups is possible feedback, so you may need to encase the pickups or wrap the back and sides of the pickup with some foam unless the pickup is encased with shielded metal covers or plastic covers and epoxy.

    • That’s a good point on mag pickups, I will check and see just how good a stainless was used. If good quality it shouldn’t be magnetic

      • Metals of all types can have effects on pickups either for good or bad. Even non magnetic metals can have an effect on the magnetic field, you just have to try it out and see.
