A friend plays Bass, I was showing him my fretless CBG, and he asked me to make him a 2 string Bass... since I can't resist a fun project or challenge, I agreed.

I'll take all the advice I can get, since I searched here and found nothing... maybe my google-fu is failing me.  Anyway, I bought some cheap "scratch-and-dent" Bass tuners on fleabay.  They're HUGE...  According to my precision measuring instrument (the MK-I Human Eyeball), these are too tall to work with a standard 1x2 neck. . .

Now what?  These darn things are longer than my 1x2 is thick.  I would normally cut down the head to 3/8" and mount the tuners, but the nut will just fall out...  I am not sure I want to glue in an angled neck, I'm worried it would tear off. . .

I've seen string keepers.  Are these the answer?  Will they interfere with string tension?

Thanks!

  • Yep, lissen to The Kid. As the Dormouse and Grace Slick said, "Feed your head." ;-)
  • Hello

If I am understanding your problem correctly I think you may be able to use a spider to pull the strings down and keep the nut in place

I use curtain eyes to pull the string down after the nut after it goes though the eye pulling it down it goes to the tunner

  • Build up the head in back by laminating more wood on so the tuners sit deeper in there
