I've tried a few different ones similar to the ones in the photo, but on many of them I've had the threads strip. I like the styling of the neck when I use them, but I don't trust them very much and am scared to put them on a build that I plan to sell. Any of you have much success finding good quality ones at a decent price?

In the attached pic I had not screwed the tuner plate to the headstock yet.

  • I've been very happy with the ones from CB Gitty - just need to make sure the holes the headstock aren't binding on the posts (that can be tricky - a taper boring tool can help a lot here) and use a little bit of lube as John says.
  • Thanks John, I'll give that a try.
  • Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I have a question. Have you lubed the worm gear and the two little retainers that the tuning head runs in? I haven't a great deal of experience with these, but I used a set on my first one and there have been no problems. I would give them a very small amount of moly grease vs lithium grease or copper slip or .................. You get the idea. Might make all the difference.
