Heck, I have almost planned one of my own. I have looked into renting a little known nature center near me. It has a large gathering room that has windows all the way around three sides. There are bathrooms, shower and a kitchen. Although, I know some great Amish caterers that would leave the food preparation hassles behind.
The nature center does not get much use from Oct.- April so picking a weekend event may not be so difficult.

That's why we held the PA CBG Fest the same day as a major art fest. We had up to 1200 people come thru our fest. Most of them had never heard a CBG before and were blown away. We got attendees, sold tons of stuff and made plenty of converts.
Good luck!

I worked as a sound provider for the folk roots genre locally including working a weekly open mic night that included a feature act. We would get up to 15 acts covering a range of genres. This could be guy or gal with guitar acts up to 7 piece full on bands. Sure kept me on my toes. The local blues jams I've seen start up have had only modest attendance/success. If there was interest, we could possibly join some of the existing open mics (though around here they are getting a little hard to find).
At some point I figure I'll just post and ask who is from around here. How large is the community out your way? For me, the existing community consists of those I've built instruments for. It is a rather slow way to build a group.
Another possibility I've considered is a local builders guild (again, would have to find some local builders).
Right now I'm on the road a bit too much but hope to land a job with less travel soon. Then I'll at least know I can plan something in advance and know I'm not going to get sent to who know where.
