Hello all! I am an amateur dulcimer builder who has produced a few well intonated dulcimers with minimal tools (backsaw, mitre box, scribing chisel, yardstick/straight edge, pocket knife) and noticed that the resources for amateur level dulcimer building are limited to very poorly intonated novelties. My first question is whether I have perhaps missed a quality resource for low level builders that details how to build dulcimers. My follow-up question is whether there would be any interest in a tutorial video detailing how to build a cigar-box dulcimer using solely a leatherman multi-tool, as well as a tutorial video on how to build one using only the tools mentioned above? All of the builds shown have cost me 20$ or less; I'd be happy to make one so long as it's not redundant or unnecessary. Cheers!

I am interested! I admire the fine craftsmanship of gentrified cigar box guitars, but frankly, its out of my leagu e and budget. I have a minimalist set of basic tools. The only power tools I have are a power drill, handheld jig and a miter saw.
As for dulcimers, I recently bought used lap dulcimer online for about $40 each. One of them needs re-fretting. It is too expensive to have for a full re-fret given the value of the dulcimer. I might try to tackle it myself.
Would love to see that kind of video. I’m currently in “research mode” on building simple dulcimers.
Hey Nate, are you going to do the video? Inquiring minds want to know.
That is the kind of stuff I love. Please do make a video. Thanks.
