Hi Hooch, that's pretty much the way I built my banjo's. I found I needed lots of jigs too. Its' funny, I did not watch any videos of anybody building prior to starting mine, but ended up with a very similar process.
In my photo of the rim, if you look close, you can see the laminated rings laid up as in your video, and in the drill press photo a similar approach there too. This was 10 years ago.
The solid block shown is not part of the banjo, its a support for drilling.
If I had a bigger shop, well any shop at all I'd be able to build like this. But since I don't, I won't be doing so anytime soon. Its interesting that you came to building the drum the same way.
