My CBG has a pickup. I thought about getting a used amp, however, I also have a 2000s model Singing Machine Karaoke machine, that has the capability of hooking into a TV, which has some distortion features, and good speakers. I've heard that the cable can hook into the mic jack. If I play in public, I plan on using it, anyway. My question is, has anyone used a karaoke machine as an amp? Thanks. I don't know where to put this.

  • Yeah, I've run my CBGs and commercial gits through one (though not a Singing Machine model). It does work, but you suffer substantial volume loss / lack of headroom. For a piezo-equpped CBG, you might wanna use a pre amp box between it and the karaoke amp. Normally, a karaoke input Jack will be low impedance, 600 ohms. Using a piezo, which is an ultra high impedance source (usually 1 Mega ohm), you'd need a preamp to get that signal impedance matched with a low-Z Jack. If using a CBG with a mag pickup, that's a relatively high impedance source (above 40K ohm), so you still should use a preamp, but could get away with not using one. In either case you will suffer significant volume loss without a preamp.

But it can't hurt it to try anyway.
