How BASS do you want to go? the ultra-low B string from a 5 string bass strung at 25.5 in on a 4 string CBG neck can be tuned to E and should be tight enough to be very playable and sound like a standard E string from a bass.
Search Low Bow and you will find some examples of what you are considering.
do you need to run separate wiring and pickups?
