Thanks Darryl. You're right about it being an entirely different beast! I played guitar for many years before retiring to WV. Here I became friends with a group of folks playing traditional Appalachian fiddle tunes so I started playing banjo with them. When I wanted to play fiddle I had a few very good players who would show me what they were doing so I could get started. Heck, I was 60 and didn't even know how to tune one! Since then I've learned a ton of stuff from free youtube lessons. Look up Fiddlerman, and Red Desert Violins. They're two of my favorite tutors.

Or just make another one Wade! I've made some that sounded bad and the time spent working on them I could have made at least one more! However, the tearing apart is valuable too because that way you can do a fair before and after comparison

Thanks Jim. I'm going to tear it apart and glue one in there. Antonio Stadivari please forgive me for what I am about to do ! ;)

Thanks Wade. On a carved top fiddle it's a no no to glue the sound post in, but that's what I do on CB fiddles since you can't wedge the post in place due to the flat top. I try to plan where the bridge will be and then glue in the post about 1/8" directly behind the treble foot. The bass bar is pretty important for a good sound also.
