I made the mistake many years ago of putting my workshop under the room where my wife watches TV. I am now retired and at any hour during the day I would like to cut / sand / drill. But wife is also retired now. So we have a schedule (fair) so as to when I can cut / sand / drill that also allows her noiseless TV time. (By the way, most of my tools produce noise at 90db or more, which is hazardous to hearing - I do wear ear protection when I work. I already have tinnitus.)

I am working on build 14 / 15 / 16.

At breakfast this morning wife asked me "When will you stop building?"

Answer - "when I can't build anymore"

Question - "what does that mean?"

Answer - "if I have arthritis or my eyesight is gone"

So, fellow builders - when will you stop building?

Hi Joe, your answers will do me.

Oh! Have you considered acoustic tiles or similar fixed to the ceiling, or thicker carpet with underfelt in the TV room or headphones for the wife.

Good luck. Taff

Hi Taff - thanks for the suggestions - I’ve checked them all and wireless headphones are the best solution but it raises other issues. Moving in a year or two and I am already planning out my next shop. ;-)

When I build the one that makes me wanna play it more than build the next
So no time soon! Hahaha
Must add that my workshop is 100' from the house

Sounds good!

Is stopping really a thing? When they pry my tools from my cold dead hands!

Alright!!!

When I have enough to cover all the tunings and string configurations I play around with.  158, 148, 159, 149, ext. and standard tuning. I will tune to G, A, B flat and C. I've even experimented with a 1151 tuning in E and got some really cool stuff. I also want a four stringer in standard tuning. The first four strings. Call it my soloist. Be able to bang out solos and not have to think of an odd tuning.

Not really a builder. Definitely a player. Once I build enough to cover all my bases I wont need any more. Unless I add a few more string or tuning configurations. When you don't or rarely play the blues there's a lot of possibilities.

You must have quite a collection! Keep going, keep going, as my dad used to say.

Actually as of right now I have two cigar box body guitars that I bought. And the two electric plywood bodies i've built. I also toss in a telly. These five keep getting re tuned, re strung and re worked. If I added up all the times i've changed out these guitars I could have built five more by now. :)

About the same... Always use ear protection, and my right ear rings all the time...

I'll stop building when there's nothing left to build, when I cannot see or work safely, or when nobody wants my guitars...

John, nobody may want your guitars but.... they may want your mandolin, or balalaika, or bouzouki... always more things to try and build ... ;-)
