Im working on a license plate CBG but not sure about a few things. I have a cigar box that is almost a perfect fit for a personalized plate.

1  Should I cut out the wood from under where the plate will be at?

2  Do I attach the piazo directly to the license?

3  How is the best way to attach the plate to the CB?  I was thinking of riviets with washers between plate and box and behind box for strength.

Hey Ferg - I'm no expert but I built my box a bit bigger and counter sunk the plate a little - I glued some mounting blocks inside and used regular pan head screws with washers. My plates are bent up a bit from use, one was bent in half originally!!! They sit up off the neck all on there own. I used a rod piezo in the bridge as I am still in the dark as the best "reso" installation.

This is very relevant to my interests. I would love to make a few license plate resonators, but I haven't seen nearly as much on actually mounting them as I would like.  A license plate is nothing like any of the resonators I have experience with.

Great, timely topic for me. I like the looks of the license plate CBGs, but only recently really got hooked on the sound of one. I am very interested in seeing what's under the hood, or plate as the case may be!

Here's what I do. This one was pine which I distressed for a vintage look. Have also used pallet wood and also tongue-and-groove oak flooring after I shaved off the tongue and the groove.
