.

#2 of the Mahogany door guitars. Features a Manzer Wedge design with treble side transitioning from 3 1/4" depth to 2 3/4" on the bass side. Makes the relatively large box comfortable to hold and play because it "leans" into the body.
Recycled Mahogany body, tapered Oak neck with Wenge fretboard. Ebony nut, Koa & Wenge tailpiece with Corian saddle.
Finished with Tru-Oil over shellac.

Thank you Gents!  The Manzer wedge was developed by Luthier Linda Manzer back in 1984 when she designed and built a large body guitar called the Pikasso for Pat Metheny.  The wedge shape makes the guitar more comfortable to hold and the strings easier to see.  You can see her work here www.manzer.com

Size and comfort isn't much of an issue with most cigar box guitars but this body is a little over 9 x 12" and 3 1/4" deep so I decided to give the wedge a try.  It is very comfortable to hold and I love playing it.

After reading Richey Kay's blog on neck tapering I decided to try that on this build too, starting with 1 1/2" at the 12th fret and tapering down to 1 1/4" at the nut.  I like that feel much better then expected and will use it more often in the future.

I mixed shellac with Mahogany end-grain sawdust to pore-fill the top before finishing with three coats of Tru-Oil.  I think it helped this old Mahogany door panel really come to life.
