I've no experience with pre amps. Would this work as a preamplifier?

I am no amp expert, but I dont think thats what you want. It is intended to drive a speaker in a portable amp, Not to drive a regular amp input. At anything above minimal output you would get impossible distortion I suspect.

A little definition of what you are trying to do would help get you better advise.

Do you want a pre-amp for a piezo output for example?

gitty sells a great preamp for about 15.00 usd   i've used them and they work great

Thanks,

Yes im looking for a piezo preamp,  Ive been wanting something small and bare boned with out its own housing.

Check this out:

Constructing an Under Saddle Transducer

farther down the page he shows plans to build your own preamp.

Ive been studing plans for a DIY version..would be much cheaper if my soldering skills are up to it

There is an old discussion here that may be of interest http://www.cigarboxnation.com/group/amps/forum/topics/minipreamp-se...

they even make a tube tone 1 go for it 2,5 watts should be fun

are you goind magnetic or piezo it is a replacement kind of for strats you replace 1 tone pot i would go mag, pup and it will be sweet if sound isnt to funky this digital stuff can come close to actual sounds cheap way for tube tone

Kel, I assume you want an onboard preamp, uncomplicated, hidden or without the equilizer controls and such that are commonly included. And that you arent keen on building one from scratch.

You will have to consider the decision between passive and active, but I would choose active for the additional line boost and tonal range.

Here are some ideas to consider:

That's a power amp I have somewhere a schematic for an preamp, if yo like it tell me your e-mail please

F.

Go with the Gitty preamp and rod piezo setup for 15 bucks. It sounds fantastic and cuts out the top rubbing noises while playing. AAAA+. For 15 bucks you can't hardly buy lunch!
Nice place Gitty I didn't hear of it until Bob writes about in CBG.. many thanks Bob!
