Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I have a question. Have you lubed the worm gear and the two little retainers that the tuning head runs in? I haven't a great deal of experience with these, but I used a set on my first one and there have been no problems. I would give them a very small amount of moly grease vs lithium grease or copper slip or .................. You get the idea. Might make all the difference.

I've been very happy with the ones from CB Gitty - just need to make sure the holes the headstock aren't binding on the posts (that can be tricky - a taper boring tool can help a lot here) and use a little bit of lube as John says.
