Sam, no American is  second class in my book. Your contribution to the troops made a huge difference in my deployment as well as many many others in Afghanistan. For that and All that you do I thank you for your service to our soldiers and sailors.

Hal,

I agree with you, but... almost all the military I know appreciate the respect offered, but neither expect or ask for or demand it.  Ass kicking is/ought to be reserved for the true enemies of our coutry.  Citizens that are uninformed or uncouth or unthinking deserve distain and to be ignored.

I never served because of circumstance, but that does not make me a second class citizen or human being.  I think my credencials for supporting our service people needs no excuse or explaination.  I pray for the day when we don't have to send our "brightest and best" to die or to return home mained physically and emotionally.

The very civilians you seem to show disrespect for ("reporters, poets, community organizers" ... and I would add teachers, civil servants, farmers and many others that draft boards deemed "essential" during WW1, WW 2, Korean and Vietnam) maintain the fabric of the American culture that is worth the cost that we ask of our military.  It is that American culture that in it's genius decided that we didn't want to promote a Military Elite that would dominate American society.  No military dictators for America.  That is why most military happily return home to live civilian lives and ... that is why the founders of our country established a military order in which every service person from Private to 5 Star General stands and salutes a civilian; the President and "Commander-in-Chief".

By the way, I have learned that you don't have to shout to be heard.

the best,

Wichita (saluting the flag and thanking veterans at every opportunity) Sam

God bless you and your family, and thank you for your service to our country.

Amen brother. I just lost all last years holidays including my 45th birthday to Afghanistan, a job I was proud to do. I agree with all of this. I also have to say that after serving on a British base for the last 9 months, seeing our flag flown all around my home town is the most beautiful sight I have seen. Peace my friend

Rules  for Kickin' Ass

Rules  for the  Non-Military

Make  sure you read #13

Dear  Civilians, 'We know that the current state of affairs in our
great nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join  the
military.

For  those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here  are
a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:

1.  The next time you see any adults talking  (or wearing a hat)
during the playing of the National Anthem - kick their  ass.

2..  When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag
in protest - kick their ass.

3.   Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the
highest amount of  respect to all veterans. If you see anyone  doing
otherwise, quietly pull them aside  and explain how these veterans
fought for the very freedom they bask in every  second.
Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make
this great Nation. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks
their ass.

4.  If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were.
Wearing  battle dress uniforms (BDUs) or Jungle  Fatigues, telling
Others that you used to be 'Special Forces'.

Collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay when you were
seven years old, now, it will only make you look stupid and get your
ass kicked.

5.  Next time you come across an *Air Force* member, do not ask them,
'Do you fly a  jet?' Not everyone in the Air Force is a  pilot.  Such
ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).

6.  If you witness someone calling the Coast Guard 'non-military',
inform them of their mistake - and kick their ass.

7.  Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on
your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your
heart.
Quietly thank the  military member or veteran lucky enough to be
carrying her - of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe ass-kicking.

9.  'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense to me - stop  saying it!
If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore would kick your
ass!

10.  'Flyboy' (*Air Force*), 'Jarhead' (*Marines*), 'Grunt' (*Army*),
'Squid' (*Navy*), 'Puddle Jumpers'(*Coast Guard*),  etc., are terms of
endearment we use describing each other.   Unless you are a  service
member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. Using them
could get your ass kicked.

11.  Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the
military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and
religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please
remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors,
marines and airmen far from  home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our Country would get it's ass kicked.

12.  It's the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of
the press.

It's the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.

It's the Veteran, not the community organizer, who gives us the freedom
to demonstrate.

It's  the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the  flag,
and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.

AND ONE MORE:

13.  If you ever see anyone singing the national anthem in Spanish  -
KICK THEIR  ASS.

ONE  LAST THING:
If you got this email and didn't pass it on - guess what - you deserve
to get your ass kicked!

I sent this to you, Not because I didn't want to get my ass kicked BUT
BECAUSE YOU ARE VERY, VERY SPECIAL TO ME AND I KNOW YOU WILL NOT BE OFFENDED AND ARE PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN AND WILL FORWARD THIS ALSO.
THANK YOU

sam, i asked all the same questions...so i cant blame guys for looking for the same information ad infinitum. as for your recent troubles - i give you these words:

Don't let me drift too far,
Keep me where you are
Where I will always be renewed.
And that which you've given me today
Is worth more than I could pay
And no matter what they say
I believe in you. bob dylan

w sam, on personal notes I wish all the best to you in your fight against cancer. And that early detection is a positive for you. Also I can jump on that soapbox and shake my fist at the same questions for sure. However I am also one who has done it. My main reason is for social interaction. I like starting a discussion about a subject that interests me. I sincerely send the most positive vibes I can you way. And in regards to the kick the dog statement: "Never join with your friend when he abuses his horse or his wife, unless the one is about to be sold, and the other to be buried." ~Colton.
