Hi Paul, I did not buy the pickups or wire them in that's all down to the customer, but you are right they are SD pickups. Sorry I did not make note of the models. 

Years ago I started using New Guinee Rosewood, bought all the local store had that was 1/4 cut. It was hundreds of dollars. I did not tell what my guitars were made of for many years, now I see it in luthier supply shops and what cut up, side, backs necks and solid bodies adds to a couple of grand now.

It's a fine looking guitar and with the "Hockey Stick" headstock and small cut off pickguard, I knew it was a nod to EVH.
Love the look of Rosewood. I've seen a few build of all Rosewood guitars and a couple Redwood guitars lately and they are beautiful. My cousin said he had some Redwood for me, enough for a body so I'm looking forward to that.
Prices getting high enough that I wouldn't be surprised if people started cutting down their own and toting them out of the forests soon. LOL

Actually Gibson debuted that headstock on the Explorer back in 58’, same year the Flying V was introduced? So , really Kramer & Jackson was making a nod towards the good ol’ days of Gibson?

That's right. Eddie had a Explorer and the had that Ibanez Destroyer that he cut up and I think he was stuck on that headstock design. I like it too.

Yea, I know what you mean. Lots of people who’ve not seen him live, don’t know he actually used several different guitars during their shows. Gibsons, Fenders, Kramers, Etc. He even had a Les Paul with hot rodded wiring that he only used on one song?

Paul, I think those pickups you’re talking about are the Mighty Mites. Basically they’re Seymour’s version of a 70’s Di-Marzio Super Distortion pickup that Eddie favored which was an overwound Gibson Zebra pickup with stronger Ceramic magnets?

Not the mighty mites, although Eddie did use them in the Destoryer and the Black & Yellow guitars. The Mighty Mites had slug poles in each coil. I have a set of those and they are awesome.

The 1978 Humbucker came out at the same time the Whole Lotta Humbucker came out and came in black or zebra coils, one had slug poles and the other had screw poles. They were made to emulate the pickup Eddie had in the white and black striped guitar They were around 175 a piece and bridge only. SD may have named them something else and dropped the price.

The SD pickup I was talking about was the Distortion pickup , he had been making those since 70’s, it got cut out of my original comment for some reason? I worked on 3 tours with VH as a stagehand and I mostly saw Di-marzios & SD Distortion pickups, with a few Mighty mites in between?

Speaking of “on the bench” I got these old pedals on the bench for true bypass & modification. The Ross is from Dec. 79’ In addition to true bypass, I’m replacing the obsolete power jack to a modern barrel style one. The Boss pedal is from Aug. 84’ this one is also a candidate for true bypass & a mod to the tone section, as well as a scratchy volume pot that I will replace. The Ross is a kicka&$ distortion box that is really dynamic & versatile, while the Boss is thin & tinny, especially at upper gain settings? All good, a quick substitution of a few resistors & a series of capacitors will do the trick. Since Covid hit, I’ve been fixing/modifying more pedals, I think I like building pedals from scratch more than modifying them? Either way?

Hi, while this "What's on your bench" thread is showing I thought I'd show this long drawn out project, like 21 years, and I have it on the bench....again.
It started out as a mock-up for a customer who wanted a smaller bodied strat-style guitar. As I thought he was a bit of a tosser, I used pine instead of Ash or Alder, in case the deal fell through. And it did. Then I decided to enter it in a wood magazine competition for items made of Radiata Pine, but the competition closed before the guitar was finished.

So here we are. The neck is also pine 1/4 sawn, we will see how that goes. It will have Fender strat pickups, swapped out of a new guitar I upgraded for a customer and the finish is simply Truoil, this will have a satin finish to it. The tuners are Sperzal gold locking type and the bridge will also be gold hardtail.

On the home straight now...I hope...so much to do and so little time.
