This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

My first 6 string guitar kit.

Hi PS, well that will give you a good start into guitar building. I would be making templates off it before going too far, ready for the next one.
Enjoy.
Taff

P-90? I have yet to build a six as well. This looks almost exactly what I have been looking for. Sweeeeet.

Taffy, as usual has a great idea there.

Congratulations and have a blast!

Now I can't post or reply to other's post without having to post and then edit.

Southern Ray, I made my speaker cabinet with a swinging door on the back to alter how much bass is coming from the cabinet. Also helps with getting inside to fix it. Don't know if you made it to be able to do those things or not.

Poorness Studios, That's a nice kit and Taff's suggestion of making templates isn't a bad idea. P90's are awesome and if you want to use mini-buckers instead, those Snake Oil pickups or Firebird pickups will drop right in. Since you have 2 pickup routes you could have a mixed combo too. Lots of options to choose from. First thing you need to do is to check all the routes for good fit and make sure they all line up right or you'll have some issues. Have fun. I got a SG kit a month ago, but haven't started on it yet.

Hey guys. I'm going to do a video about the 6 string build when it's complete. It is one of the Muslady kits you can get off of eBay. The kit was less than $100 shipped. It includes all the hardware, but honestly... some of the hardware is pretty chintzy. I'm using a lot of parts I had on hand. The instructions are severely lacking so it probably wouldn't be a good kit for a first timer. Regardless, It's coming along nicely. I should have her done this week. Again, watch for the video. :-)

Check out the kits over at Guitarfetish, they’re well worth it?

Guitarfetish has some great pickups and hardware, but their wood products, Guitars and kit guitars are notorious for bad QC. Route cavities often don't line up with the others causing strings to be too close to the edge of the neck and often miss the poles on the pickups when put together.

Their wood products have about a 50% chance of being decent enough to work out. You can fix them though if you know how. They use a lot of Asian wood that has a great tone, but can be too soft that allows bridge post's or tremolo mounting screws to pull out from the bodies. So watch out for that.

 Paul,

I am getting started on researching where I can find a sawmill in southern Louisiana. Looking for a slab of Ash to carve me an electric from.

Their are 2 types of Ash -  1.Northern Ash from the North-East area that a lot of guitar makers use(can be heavy) 2. Southern Swamp Ash from the Southern Coastal region(can be very resonant and lite).

I like Ash for it's grain patterns. It's great for natural and stained finishes and is usually a bright toned wood for the Northern type, but the Southern Swamp Ash can be dark toned to bright toned.

Stewmac has body blanks of wood and ready to finish bodies in great condition if you want to go the easy route, but great condition and easy cost's more. Warmoth is also great for bodies and necks.

BrianQ, I was born in Louisiana and got the urge to do this. I figure there is a high probability of anguish, blood-loss and sobbing, but it also sounds, (to me), like a fun thing to build. Hope to build a P-90 replica to stick in it.

All the lumber yards around me closed leaving me only choices of Pine, Poplar or Red Oak from Lowe's or Home Depot.

You can order some other types of wood online and have it shipped to the store though. I do miss being able to walk through a lumber yard and pick what I want.

Brian iI did a google map search and found sawmills everywhere in Louisiana except the delta region.
