Just wondering what the 2.5 w amp board from cbgitty sounds like when distorted. Ive tried other chipmamps and some distort nicely e.g. LM386, but others do not e.g TDA2003.

Sorry, posted in wrong section. Can I move it myself, or can someone move it for me?

No need to move, all good, it’s already here? Here’s Shane’s article about the gitty 2.5 watter, complete with sound demos, I have heard this amp, with the Psycho knob distortion & it’s pretty kool sounding? hope this helps? https://www.guitarworld.com/blogs/build-this-simple-diy-guitar-amp-kit

Yes that sounds like what I'm after but am curious to know how it sounds without the psycho knob. In my Marine Band amp I have a TDA2003 amp board which sounds OK clean but not distorted so am considering changing the electronics.

A lot of these amps come with a block type gain pot on the board to set the gain level. You can remove them and wire in a regular gain pot for accessible control. I think some of the amps come with instructions on how to do that mod if they haven't made them all 2 knob amps(volume and gain) by now.

Psycho knob on the way! The cost of this simple little amp is gradually creeping up but then I'm learning a lot in the process. Money spent on education is seldom wasted !

I've ordered a Psycho Knob. If my TDA2003 power amp already uses up to 0.5A, would I need a 2nd 9v battery to power both?
Looks like the psycho along with the amp can drain the battery pretty fast. Admittedly using rechargeable 9v battery which doesn't have much capacity. Might use external 9v power supply instead

You can use 2 9volt batteries in parallel(both hot wires together and both ground wires together) for longer play time or get a walwart with high miliamp output. Unfortunately, the walwarts may cause problems with unwanted noise.

I use the battery pack from an RC car to power mine. Rechargeable, 9.6v, molex connector for easy charging/switch out, and I get about 5 hours of play time at full volume between charges.

Good results I think. Sound clips with each of the psycho settings from 0 to 4.

Any idea of the max power supply voltage of the Psycho Knob?
Thinking if building one into a DIY power amp which needs at least 12v

Ask Ben(Gitty), He'll know.
