Hey all!! Just found this area!!!
I have built a 20" scale CBG for my grandson - I want to tune it GDG, that same as what I play. What gauge strings should I be using? I tried 36, 26 and 17 but it sounds wonky. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Thanx

Following up on Suspect Device's entirely accurate post, just go to any of the online fret calculators to get your starting point. There are some linked around here or you can just google fret calculator.

Use whatever scale seems comfortable. For diatonic, just skip (remove) the 1, 3, 6, & 8 frets.

Use a fret calculator just like you would for a guitar. The downside of nylon strings is they go out of tune in a heartbeat.

I have built about 100 CBG's and thought to branch out and build a baritone uke. I would like the longest scale at about 20". I will be using the DGBE strings but my question is finding the fret positions. Also wondering if I should use nylon strings. I plan on using a disc piezo at the bridge. Any thoughts ?
