I would sand the rough parts flat until they match up? Are they glued together already? Pics? A good clamping, sharp blade & practice will help in long run? Sand it smooth and move on. As long as you have a good glue joint it's only aesthetic. You can always paint the headstock a solid color to mask the misalignment of the woodgrain if that's the main concern. They're never perfect.

One trick to sanding a a scarf joint is to use a sanding block, instead of sanding back and forth you sand in a circle. Back and forth you have double pressure in the ends and there is always a gap. In a circle it remains flat. Can't wait to see your #1!

Forgot to add, the paper bands wrapped around cigars are great for covering up boo boos?

Thanks to all who responded to my question. My problem is with the feathered edge on the back of the neck. I ended up taking a small file and working it until it looked better. Not perfect but I’ve decided it’s just a character addition and likely no one will notice except me. Still working on getting over my “perfectionist “ problem when building. This is my sixth build and not one has been perfect and not one person has commented on it!
