Got most of the shape done today and the pickup cavity routed.

Chris Fouke (of that awesome vid of his all aluminum industrial baritone kicking serious ass) recommend a Kent Armstrong humbucker and that arrived yesterday.

Finally found a headstock pattern, but I need to glue on a couple wings to fit it. (Epiphany as I type this...I was going to buy some walnut, but it just dawned on me it's going to be painted. Doh....)  Ignore that weirdness at the nut. I'm gonna beat-to-fit.

P.S. Ignore the dirty carpet too, that's me tracking sawdust into the house.

I used the same headstock design on one of my CBG's. I hollowed the center out and mounted the tuners on the sides with pegs facing the back. Easy to tune.

I really like the up-or-down peg position, but I gon't have the skills yet to rout a hollow headstock...

I’ve done that with a forstner bit & files, not hard at all, just a little patience?

What is this "patience" of which you speak? I know not the word...

I used a large Forstner bit for the corners/points and cut the rest out with a jig saw. Clean up with files.

The hardest part was drilling the peg holes on the side because it was end grain of the wood made it hard to keep the holes from walking. I used Brad Bits for that and it worked out well enough. The pitch of the headstock angle helped to secure the tuner with that offset screw.

Lookin' good James. This should be a cool build.

Watch for my next thread...
