Build #2 is underway.

Not particularly an original design, but I'm still using these early builds as test beds for my skills.

Build #2:

1.  Doug Fir 2x6

2.  23" scale

3.  For other builds, wings would be hollowed for wires to minimize routing thru body, Wings are removable.

4.  Now comes the fun part... re-purposing non-guitar items. The control panel is a modified 3/4" wire pull corner conduit box. The snouts have been shortened as well as the overall height. The box will be screwed through the real bottom, the opening facing out.  The white knob will be tone, the red circle shows where volume will go, and the down facing snout will be the jack. The opening will be covered with my hand made walnut box cover. (Home Depot has great hobby boards).

5. Pickup is ebay single coil prewire, Wires a straight shot thru body (7/8" with Forstner bit)

Future plans include builds with wire run wings, single/double humbuckers, classic tuners (if I can pull off the route channels in the head), and even a whammy bar.I'm starting to think that the nice piece of redwood  I found will be some sort of mashup of my early builds,

I wet down the hardwood slab from my garage, and pix are going to my local Woodcraft store. I will report and post pix after I identify the wood, but ohhhhhhh boy, did that thing come to life when wet. Yowza.

Good start, reminds me of a National “Dynamic” lap steel from the 40’s?

Latest progress...

Has more shape now. Made a couple mistakes, Measured once (tuner holes), and cut once and fixed once. Must not have been awake.   Partly because of thaat, this one is going to be painted. I decided red/black.....or black/red, with 3 deco speed lines on the sides of the wings Right nowI'm thinking a dark redbody with black wings, but I dunno...

I sprung for a sander and router too. Don't know how I lived without them...

Looks like a really great start James. I can't wait to see how this one comes out.
