Robert, I'm having exactly the same experience with my first 2 builds. One of them has grounding via the ferrules on the tail-end of the neck, whilst the other build has a metal bridge/metal saddles and has a ground wire on its underside. The first build has vol & tone pots and the second just a vol.  In both cases, the earth wire starts from the earth point on the back of the vol. pot. One single coil pickup on each.

I've checked earth continuity with a multimeter at ALL earths and get a tone. Just can't figure the damn thing out! It's not an especially loud buzzing as such, but I get 'clicks' when touching all the places in contact with the strings on both guitars as well as this overall (but fairly low) background buzz. Changing cables, amps etc., makes no difference.

I've had both of them to pieces several times now but am still flummoxed!

Any thoughts on the cause of this and possible remedy anyone??

Hi Stephen,

I usually ground my earth at the tail, I use a furniture connector to attach the neck to the back of the box with two washers between the neck and back of the box. This does not always work for me , so to attach the bridge through the lid to the neck I add two extra pieces of wood to the sides of the neck for the screws to locate. I strip the earth wire, one centimetre , add two washers and screw through to the neck. This has solved the problem for me.2ADD046F-6C77-49B4-A7A6-6BB873693CDB.jpeg .Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for your suggestion & photo, Robert. Just a bit confused.....

So instead of grounding from the back of the vol. pot. to the metal bridge, your earth wire goes around a screw/washers that screws into the neck wood? How does that earth the strings? Sorry if I'm not grasping this too well!
