Cigar Box Guitar/Surfing The Partagas Blues

Virtually at the beach playing my UJ Partagas fretless 3 string. Incoming turbulence.

Thank you Uncle! I find this fretless, and right when I first started playing it, rather easy to finger play. The Swampy is very difficult other than right near the head. I think it has to do with the finish on the playing board of the neck. The Partagas has a slightly rougher surface, so it grabs the note  a bit better, and bending the string gives it a slight growl. It’s crowded on the Cally patio, my angles are limited, but this angle does show the playing pretty good. Hard choice though, headless playing with bad crotch angel, or head shot with partial guitar view.

Good advice AGP, I should know better! This beach behind me is Asilomar Beach, about a mile and a half down the road is Lovers Point. It’s a place where a lot of couples get married. The waters usually look calm, but it seems a couple times a month, for that great photo, the couples venture out to the rock on the far right, and like you say, get washed out to sea. Half of them don’t make it, it takes the coast guard about 10 minutes to get there. My shoes did get a soaking though! I did get some deep tones, thank you kindly my friend!

A great sound you are cranking out of that Partagas, some purposeful string-bending too!

Thanks Dave! I used the chroma feature on Filmmaker Pro for the effect, at least it worked this time without freezing! Hopefully they get the bugs out since we’re both experiencing some of the same problems. I’m drying out the Partagas, didn’t notice half of it was in the water while playing, but that’s Ruffin Surfin I guess.

Cool to see your hand and slide work.  Meat camera angle.   Sounding good and I like it that you can do some fingering on fretless.

Some nice deep tones coming through there Richard, very enjoyable listening, but!, a word of caution, never turn your back on the Ocean, the virtual dreaded "Freak Killer Wave", could be lurking out there somewhere waiting to take you   :-D

I loved that Richard. I could see your fingering on the low frets. Nice riffin blues. Surf’s zup!

Pretending to be by the water maybe helps Danny! I’m just getting the hang of these three string critters! They sure are fun! Thank you very much!
