This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Thanks Taff. I have a "poker chip" switch piece and pickguard coming that's black, but I have a sheet of Black Pearl and I'm thinking of cutting out those pieces in that color instead. What do you think?

Some of you may know this and others like me not.. I was talking to a local guitar maker and getting advice on fretting..

One quick tip or trick he showed me was to take a piece of fret wire that you're going to use and with a needle file carefully file off all the barbs on the tang.. Once you do that you've got a perfect depth gauge for your slot..

It just slides easily into the slot and you can see immediately whether the fret is seated correctly..

Just a little thing but boy it sure works..

That's a great idea, thanks for sharing Eric. Sometimes the littlest trick or idea can save the most time on a job.

To save derailing another thread any more than it already is.. Paul asked me to post these photos here..  not exactly on the bench but its been whats stopping me build my bass.. well this and my back..lol

storage cupboards for the missus to put her scrapbook and craft stuff in... and its full before its finished.. doors are not on yet and its not been covered..lol

it isnt fine furniture but it does the job... two normal internal house doors per side and the bit on the end is a cupboard for the vacume and brooms etc..

Looks nice and sturdy and I'm sure a few guys could use these in their shops if they don't have them already.

Hi, Ive got no wall space left in my workshops, and that photo is a dead ringer (exactly the same) as my wife's craft room. It's wall to wall scrapbook stuff. Very handy when graphics are needed on a box. If I put doors on her shelving I couldn't see what she's got, ha ha.

Taff

That reminds me to say that if you have something like this in your shop, put doors on them or everything will be covered in sawdust.

Had to clean out an extra rack of 4 motorcycle carburetors because of unwanted sawdust once.

Hi Paul, man am I spoilt or what? I got a different workshop for my motorbikes. My problem there is keeping the wasps from putting mud in any oriface they can find. Ha ha. Taff.

I get those Wasp's and the Carpenter Bees. Haha

I just sold the bike, guy's going to come get it this coming weekend. So I won't have to deal with that anymore, but she will be missed.:(

mate thats not even half of it. there is 2, 4 drawer filing cabinets several cube storage units. a display unit she bought from a craft store that closed down.... and an old 6 place dining table as a desk.and.... and....and...lol

got to get some gyprock and hang the doors.. her idea the doors but i bet she never closes them!!

Hi, what's on my bench? well a new bench top, it only took 20 years. The bench is mainly used for violin family and orchestral stringed instruments repairs.

The old one was too big and collected more of the stuff that I did not use often, than it did stuff I did use.

So using reclaimed packing case timber I did what yo see here. I raised the top a bit so as to be able to put some hand tools and reference data close to hand but out of sight in three drawers. Also a better layout for my hand tools at the back, and the tools hanging on the side. Its so nice to work on I'm going to do the same to my other benches.

Cheers Taff

Nice.

Stewmac is selling these now. It's a good idea.
