Thanks guys, tomorrow the news team will be at the club meeting over at the roadhouse and I'm getting ready with a few builds in the shop! Interesting topic. I have experimented around a lot with PU positioning and adding those wafer thin earth magnets which actually work well but create a high gain.

Great painting! I love the artwork around the festival! The mural in the roadhouse too!

i’ve just Put a BoxBucker into my latest build under the wood top. It’s picking up great with nothing showing on top. I have it snug under the wood in a wood enclosure (all 1/8 inch scraps) in the neck position. Slightly microphonic but it sounds beautiful. Sound sample in videos and photos of the mounting in pics.

Hi Terry , not sure why you posted this here  , but . ill answer your question .  The magnets are not needed if the strings are close enough to the pickup underneath . and a mag pickup WILL  still read strings through wood even 2/4  inch thick .The trick is to leave a small space so the pickup is not touching the lid . other wise you may get a micropgonic  / piezoish sound .  your tone may still be a bit "muddy " but some folks like muddy .

  hope thAt helps .

Hey...long time member/minimal poster here. Somewhere I read about mounting a three pole pickup under the soundboard and then placing 3 little round (3/16”?) magnets on top of the soundboard positioned over the poles. This apparently extends the magnetic range of the pickup. All that I can find are very strong little round magnets. Wuold these work? What would be an optimum distance between magnet and string? Are these extra magnets even needed (1/8” thick soundboard?) Really any information on this subject would be appreciated. Thanks.
