Tuning nightmare

Does anyone have the tuning frequencies for GDG tuning? I use medium gauge strings (no5,4,3 from normal pack) the 5th keeps breaking when I try and tune it to a G. I now tune my middle string to D the try and time the low string to the D on the seventh fret. Any help would be greatly appreciated

What scale length is your git and what octaves are you trying to tune to and how much tension do you like?

Hi, if you look at the note of the strings and not the numbers, should give you an idea.

eg..5 - A. 4 - D. and 3 - G in a standard pack. Tune the strings to concert pitch and drop the A string back to G. I think you are tuning up an octave on the A string.

Hi thank you for the replies. My scale length is 25” (635mm). Trying to tune open G, I like a more base sound so I like low tension strings.

Ok, seems to me you are wanting to tune G2, D3, G3. If you don't have a tuner that shows the octave number you can download a tuning app for your phone that does.

I just re-read your original post and noticed that you said you were trying to tune the G by matching it to the 7th fret on the D. You'd want to use the 5th fret on the D (which is G3) not the 7th fret (which is A3) and you'd want your low G to be an octave lower instead of matching the fretted G on the D string.

Using a digital tuner is much easier though. : )

Hi, just changing strings only can only go so far in getting "bass" tones. The box (tone chamber) has to have certain qualities or features to be able to create bass tones. In a full size guitar this is achieved by size of body, size of soundhole, timbers used and their dimensions and last but not least the design of the bracing.
