If you like please post a SHORT explanation of how you got the CBG building, playing addiction.

I had many guitar parts, maybe enough to build 5 or 6 guitars. While in a smoke shop that had a walk in humidor and I saw my first cohiba red dot box and bought it not for a guitar but a just a stash box.

Few days later at a large garage sale bought a guitar body with neck for $6. When I laid the guitar on the bench next to the box the light came on RTZ#1 . First guy to play it like it so I gave it to him.

Then I found this site while trying to put a Smoky Amp in a Acid box and learned about the 386chip.  In 8 years I have built about 34 sting instruments with the help of ya'll thanks.   RTZ

So.,.,my buddy was looking for more junk to sell on Ebay.,.,he sold mostly thrift store finds.,.,he suggested a "cigar box guitar".,.,as there are torn up guitars in every room in my house.,,. I built a CBG with $6 worth of parts and learned what a piezo disk is.,.,listed on Ebay for 99 cents.,.,.,it sold for $31.,.,,.and that was about 170 builds ago.,.,like a potato chip, it's real hard to eat just one.,.,

And this is a great site with lots of good folks.,.,feels like home.,.,

I quit work early - about 15 years ago and had always thought about making a Tele. What put me off was fretting. I stumbled across a CBG kit on eBay from Bill Jehle which claimed to be easy. He was right. I built it and it worked.
It came on holiday with us to France and stayed there - A guy I met fell in love with it.
Then I made a Strat(ish) with humbuckers - great guitar but a solid maple body can be a dead weight on your neck!!
Finally I did the Tele - mahogany body with flamed maple top.
Then back to CBG's
In between bouts of illness, made about half a dozen since.

I owe it all to Bill Jehle - thanks you
Got all sorts of things I want to use - a metal beer tray, enameled bed pad, brass bed warmer, several licence plates.
All I need is time!!!

Keep at it Dennis I have down time for building myself, but it there anytime I need to build someone a twanger

Back in 2012 I was researching resonator guitars and came across this website. Saw the cool stuff and thought I could do that. After the first 1 or 2 years, I ran out of funds to continue until 2015 when a friend of mine liked the idea of a CBG so I built him one to help raise his spirits during the rough times he was having. Been at it ever since. Below is CBG # 1 for me.

Thanks Lonman, seeing people playing these instruments on this site got me so I can blame this site too. 300 vids later i'm still amazed at the sound and music people make with these things.

this is true, and each one sounds different, that is the beauty of these. Fun to build and fun to play.

That Paul McCartney appearance with Dave Grohl got me.He had a Matty Baratto reso and I went cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.I have about 30 right now.I have been collecting boxes and stuff still. It has enriched  my life immensely. The wonderful friends I have  met here has been awesome. The generosity has been no less than overwhelming. Putting the CBG Fest NW has been even more awesome.Being able to turn people on to the music and the instruments has been a great way for me to give back as well.

Matty's Cigfiddle, now your a big part of this Vinnie.

Watchin videos, tryin to learn myself how to play the blues.  Getting nowhere with six strings for a long, long time.  Needed serious directions to the crossroads.

Then I saw some gal on youtube playing Black Rat Swing on a three string electrified! cigar box.  Holy Moses, my eureka moment.

So I got out the hacksaw and made a few piles of sawdust on the kitchen table.  Soon as that first one was strung up and tuned I started being a better player.  Might even become a real blues man someday.

I've made about a dozen or so, and I've sold a few, but I got the playing bug much worse than the building bug nowadays.  Recently been taking what I've learned back over to the store bought six stringers now.

By the way, thank you NightOwl.  https://cigarboxnation.com/video/black-rat-swing

Nightowl is one of my favorites too Roy she is a fine string instrument player. I have been very impressed by the things she and Mr. Morris and Shane put together on 3 string.

For me, I blame Samantha Fish. Somewhere around December 2017, Real Life was being unfairly harsh to me. Back then, I was watching semi-random music-related stuff on YouTube, to try to relax and recuperate from a rather brutal week. One of the music videos that came up was her, playing "Gone For Good" at Telluride on her "SuperSonic" "kerosene can" guitar. ("Instantly curious mode" ON.) In seeing what other music videos she had, online, I ran across even stranger hardware she was using (an actual Cigar Box Guitar) and that was the hook. It quickly took my mind off of Real Life Stuff, to do some quick (and fun) web research into what the heck that very talented woman was using ... which led me to C.B. Gitty's parts site; and to this place. Being a book-aholic, within a week I started ordering up whatever books I could find on the subject. (And surprised myself by writing some lyrics, too, that I'll eventually try to put to music.) And since then I've been picking up CDs, and parts, when bucks allow. When it warms up, I'll get more serious about starting to build some fun stuff ... but for now, I'm really enjoying the research / listening.
