HDecided to let her go. It’s going on Reverb, eBay etc soon but thought you folks should know first. It ain’t gonna be cheap.

Here’s the “blurb”...

The “Stratowing” Diesel / Deco Punk 4-string guitar.

Hand built by a professional special effects artist, you will not find another creation like this. When it’s gone, it’s gone. This is not only an unsurpassed film quality science fiction “artefact” but also a very nice playable instrument of unparalleled originality.

“Steampunk” sometimes becomes a rather worn and oversubscribed cliche often consisting of nothing more than gluing far too many cogs and copper pipes to anything that will hold still. Recently both dieselpunk and decopunk design styles have caught the eye of special effects artist Tom Lauten. “I decided to build a bespoke, “streamlined futurist” 4 string guitar straight out of the 1940’s - 1950’s pulp comic books.”

The body consists of 8 epoxy laminated, abs plastic segments assembled to create the basic body tub. This shell was then model made further, filled, shaped and sanded to its final form.

The neck was shaped from a pre made, blank 650mm scale 6 string, paddle-head neck. The neck was cut down to a parallel 42mm width. The art deco head stock, aluminium plates and mechanical parts were hand crafted and fitted. The nut is crafted from aluminium.

Some decorative parts were moulded and cast in polyurethane resin. The paint is cellulose with original, custom graphics generated, printed and applied. Final aging and weathering was carried out by hand.

A Hype Fuzz / Destructor Drive pedal kit from Pedalparts in the UK was fitted into the guitar internally. A toggle switch selects either the pedals output or a true bypass from the pickup. The “headlights” are large panel mount, vintage bulb housings with 5mm, warm white leds fitted. These are illuminated when the guitars internal FX pedals output is selected.

The guitar has a very respectable action and plays very well. The pick up is a solid, hot output. This is not an unplayable, cheap novelty. It delivers musically as well as visually. You will never, EVER find another creation like this one, no one will ever build another.

This is very cool. Reminds me of some guitar builds that John Backlund has done.
