Laminated necks, but maybe different

Ok, I have got together the parts I want to use, I already have the tools mostly, just one question? I would like to use a nice piece of cherry that I had for another project, but it is to thin, 1/2". Would 2 pieces 1/2"x11/2"x37" glued and clamped make an adequate neck and fret board? Also how would a scarf joint work, would it be better to cut it before the neck pieces are glued? Thanks for any help, this site is awesome, You Tube showed me cigar box guitars, but this site made me think I might could build one.

 I don't see why it wouldn't work. You could turn them on their side and add 2 boards of similar size on each side and glue them all together. Then cut out a neck with a degree headstock. Lots of ways to do it.

When you laminate 2 pieces together you will have a stronger piece because the grains will not be running the same direction, so the strength will increase.
