This could be git related or not. So, what's on your workbench at the moment?

I have 4 scarf joint necks in different stages of work.

A 25" scale pine 5 string neck for a Banjo-Res, A 25" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Strat-Res build, A 24 & 1/2" scale Red Oak neck for my 6 string Double Cut Tele build and a 27" scale 6 string Baritone Conversion neck for a Modern Strat body I have.

Aussie prices are definitely high as well as shipping/postal charges.

I built a J Bass couple years ago, but I just didn't like the single coil J Bass pickups. They were too thin sounding so I wired them together in series as a humbucker which was better, but not quite what I want. The 2 Pbass pickups in series are better for the Fender type pickups. The Stingray "Brick" humbuckers are great, but I tend to lean more to the Gibson Bass pickups(Thunderbird minibuckers and EBO) or the large Guild types for fatter Bass tones. Those pickups tend to be a lot more expensive.

Bass strings are a lot more costly and the flat wound strings for Bass are astronomically expensive.

Ha ha  no don't try to explain it, I've only just found out after all these years that if I click on the words Last Entry, I can actually go to the last entry Dah! I've been clicking on the post title and trying to find the latest post. And that's been a pain on this thread for instance.

I'm not the only one!!!! Took a bit to figure out that if I clicked on the latest entry I'd go to the end of a thread.

Just finishing up. Tuners and strings will be next. 23" 3 string acoustic M&M tin for a friend.

That's cool and I like the different color fret markers to simulate the M&M's.

Thanks Paul, you are right on the money on those fret markers.

I was having a new year clean up and found these part built "A" style mandolins and a mountain dulcimer. I must have started them about 25 years ago. The dulcimer my granddaughter started about 10 years ago, it was her second build.

From under the bench to on top my bench. I'd better get my finger out and get some finished.

I got 2 Tennis rackets(one wood and one metal) to make into "A" style Mando/Bouzouki gits when I get a round to them. I love the look of the A style mandolins.

Building 2 gitties at the moment. Did this simple jig to route a canal for a steel rod as my non-adjustable truss rod.

That's one way of getting it done. Haha  I would be worried about it falling over though. Hope you have the router secured.

Yes, Ha, its an old Craftman router my father bought from Sears when we lived in NY back in the 90's. Its all steel and sturdy. They don't make them like they used to but it holds firm. Maybe a little movement from the vibration of the motor, other than that, I just have to watch my fingers.

I like to magnetize my rods for a week before installing them. I don't know if its a method, but one day I found some steel rods wrapped around in speaker magnets. Was tough pulling the magnets off to get the rods. Then when I removed all the magnets, I noticed the rods themselves were magnetized because they were picking up screws in my shop.  Thought it would be cool to install as a truss rod so I been doing it ever since.

Don't know if its my skills or the magnetized truss rods but my guitars got an infinite sustain when plucked. They sing and howl and playable for one handed playing Hendrix style.

I still have my old Craftsman Router that I bought in the early 90's. Good tools were made in those days.

The sustain is more about the resonance of the wood, quality of construction/neck and body fitment and quality of hardware(bridge, tuners and nut) to pass along the vibrations. Every action having a equal  and opposite reaction sort of scenario.

Whether or not the trussrod is magnetized is an interesting theory. It seems to me that it could slow the vibrations of the strings along the neck and stop sustain. Much like the magnetic pull on the strings when a pickup is too close to the strings, but a slight amount might be of help. Guess the only way to know is to make a git and be able to remove the magnetic trussrod and replace with a non-magnetic trussrod and that wouldn't be easy.

What types of wood are you using? BTW
